School Counseling Requirements

Before you impact the future of education with a Master’s degree in Counseling and Human Services with an emphasis in School Counseling from UCCS, you must apply and be admitted to this exclusive program.

Admission Requirements: In order to be admitted, you will need...

  1. A Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
  2. A willingness to work for this degree! Learning in this field is not easy without a commitment to personal growth and willingness to participate in activities in conjunction with coursework.
  3. A complete online application for UCCS graduate school, filed by Jan. 28.

     

    Cohorts in this program begin in the summer, allowing for a smooth process to earn this degree. Tap the button below to apply.   4. An interview with a Department of Counseling and Human Services faculty member early on in the process so you may have questions answered.

  5. A completed resume or curriculum vitae.
  6. Three professional references who will speak on your behalf. Please include their name, title, organization and email address in your application.
  7. A completed background check.

  8. All transcripts supporting your educational history to be sent electronically or physically to UCCS — Office of Admissions and Records. Our address is 1420 Austin Bluffs Parkway, Colorado Springs, CO 80918-3733.
  9. A second interview to determine your professional fit during our on-campus interview day process.

    All students applying for this program are encouraged to attend this interview, although reasonable accommodations can be made, such as Skype.

  10. Submitted scores from the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) or the Miller Analogies Test (MAT) taken within the past five years.

    * NOTE: All materials must be submitted by the deadline of Feb. 28, prior to the cohort's first semester.

Degree Completion Requirements In order to complete this degree, you will need to:

  1. Complete 60 credit hours, which fulfill the 2009 CACREP standards to which UCCS adheres.
  2. Complete the prescribed courses in a time period of at most three years.
  3. Complete a 100 clock hour practicum as part of the core year of study.
  4. Complete a 600 clock hour internship following the practicum.
