Effective communication is critical to everyday life!  Whether you are communicating at school with your professors and classmates, at work with your boss and co-workers, or at home with your family or friends, communication is an essential skill for successful relationships!  The Communication Center is here to help you enhance your communication skills – in public speaking, group dynamics, one-on-one interviews, and more…  The Communication Center is a friendly place for EVERY student on campus, no matter your major or the courses you’re taking.  Many of your classes will require individual or group presentations.  Make an appointment for one-on-one, individualized peer-tutoring – whether you are a confident, expert speaker or need assistance with confidence, organization, and delivery skills – The Communication Center is here to help you!  Make an appointment today!

My office is located in the Communication Center.  Please stop by and talk with me.  With many years of teaching public speaking, leadership, conflict management, and other communication courses, I have a strong passion for helping students be successful in their education and professional endeavors.  I would be happy to assist you!  Maybe you’d be interested in working in the Communication Center.

**Mock interviews-email your cover letter, resume, and job description to cec@uccs.edu at least 48 hours in advance of your appointment to allow tutors to prepare specific questions for your assignment.

Tips to Make the Most of Our Services…

Welcome to Public Speaking (COMM 2100)

-Know your syllabus and take special note of the date your presentation(s) are due.

-Once you know the date(s), choose a topic AND make sure your instructor approves that topic.

-Now that your topic has been approved, start working on your outline and book your OUTLINING appointment for a day or two later.

-Come to your outlining appointment with your best outline. Our tutors will provide feedback designed to take your outline, and your presentation, to the next level.

-Take your tutor’s feedback and update your outline and begin working on your presentation. Use the 8 Competencies of Public Speaking as your guide.

-Book your PRESENTATION PRACTICE appointment at least a few days before you are scheduled to present. In that appointment your tutor will provide feedback to help you elevate your presentation. And, since you know the date of your in-class presentation, schedule your POST-PRESENTATION VIEWING for a day or two after you are scheduled to give your speech.
