For applicants seeking direct admission, the English Proficiency requirements are as follows:

TOEFL, IELTS, PTE and KITE results are preferred indicators of English proficiency. For applicants seeking direct admission, the requirements are as follows:
TOEFL: Students must receive a minimum score of 75 on the iBT within the past two years (UCCS code: 4874)
IELTS: Students must receive a minimum score of 6.0 within the past two years
PTE: Students must receive a minimum score of 51
KITE: Students must receive a minimum score of 460 or better (The KITE test result has to be within the past two years. Students (both UCCS students and non-UCCS students) are allowed to take the test no more than once per academic semester (fall, spring, summer). A-level: An IGCSE or A-level result of C or better on the English/First Language exam. Test results must be official and not predicted to be considered for direct admission.
West African Senior School Certificate Examination: WAEC/WASSCE grade of B3 or better on English language.
Cambridge CPE (Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English; CPE)

  • The minimum required Cambridge CPE grade is C.

Cambridge CAE (Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English ; CAE)

  • The minimum required Cambridge CAE grade is B.
English Language Proficiency Exemptions
  • U.S. College or University: Completed a minimum of one year (two full time semesters) of academic coursework at a U.S. college or university including completion of English Composition I with a grade of C or higher.
  • AP: Completion of English Language & Composition or English Literature & Composition with a score of 4 or better.
  • IB: Completion of English A Literature HL, English A Language & Literature HL, or English A Language & Literature SL with a score 4 and higher.
  • SAT critical reading score or 400 or better. (UCCS code: 4874)
  • ACT English sub-score of 14 or better. (UCCS code: 0535)
  • Citizen of a country whose first/official language and the language of instruction are English and has completed all secondary or post-secondary schooling in that country.
  • Exempt Countries: Australia, Belize, Botswana, Canada (except Quebec), Commonwealth Caribbean, Ghana, Great Britain, Ireland, Kenya, New Zealand, Scotland, Singapore, South Africa, and Zimbabwe.

  Conditional admission is offered to students who are academically competitive but have not achieved the necessary score for direct admission or have not submitted a TOEFL, IELTS, or PTE score.   If you do not meet the English proficiency requirements listed above, you can be enrolled into the UCCS Intensive English Program.
