Carlos Garcia, M.A., CASP
Carlos García, CASP, has been at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs since March 1, 2016 serving as Associate Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance, and later as Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Success and Auxiliary Services. In this position Mr. García is responsible for providing executive leadership to various auxiliary and student service operations of the UCCS campus including retail services (Bookstore, Copy and Printing, and Vending) Campus Recreation, the UCCS Farm/Greenhouse, Residence Life and Housing, Family Development Center, UCCS Presents, University Center and Conference Services, TheatreWorks, Galleries of Contemporary Art, the Artist Series, Ent Center for the Arts, Health Services (Medical Health, Mental Health, and Wellness promotions), Dining and Hospitality Services (residential dining, retail food service, campus catering, and concessions), Auxiliary Marketing, Auxiliary Assessment, and Auxiliary Finance. Mr. García also provides executive financial oversight to the department of Intercollegiate Athletics.
Prior to coming to the University of Colorado Colorado Springs, Mr. García served as Executive Director of the University Memorial Center (UMC) at the University of Colorado Boulder from 1997 to 2016 overseeing all aspects of the University Memorial Center including the self-operated food service (retail food service, campus catering, and contract food venders). In addition, he was responsible for facility’s events scheduling, conference management, events setups, non-academic campus-wide facility scheduling, building retail leases, games area and bowling alley, marketing programs, the CU NightRide program, student activities programs, a student leadership program, Greek Life, and the student government full-time staff. He oversaw small and large capital improvement projects as well as custodial and maintenance of the 263,212 square foot UMC facility.
While at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), Mr. García served as Director of Union Services and Director of University Housing from 1989 to 1997. At UTEP Mr. Garcia also served as Director of Food Services, Associate Union Director and Assistant Union Director between 1982 and 1989. Throughout his fifteen-year career at UTEP he was responsible for five facilities totaling 456,405 square feet which included the student union, residence halls, a residential dining hall, and student family apartments. He also oversaw student life and student activities programs including major concert and events management as well as the Dinner Theatre program. Mr. Garcia also worked at the University of North Texas from 1981 to 1982 as Union Operations Manager.
Mr. García has been involved professionally with both the Association of College Unions International (ACUI) and with the National Association of College Auxiliary Services (NACAS), where he has served on both the ACUI Board of Trustees and the NACAS Board of Directors. He also served as NACAS – West Regional President. He has served as Treasurer on the NACAS Board of Directors and is currently serving as President-Elect and serves on the NACAS Foundation Board.
Mr. García earned a Bachelor of Arts (1979) and a Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies with an emphasis in Higher Education Administration (1996), both from the University of Texas at El Paso. He is a Certified Auxiliary Services Professional (CASP) as granted by NACAS. Mr. García is the recipient of the UTEP Student Association’s Miner of the Year Award (1988), ACUI’s Pat Moonen Outstanding Service Award (2011), CU-Boulder’s Marius Smith Award (2016), is a fellow of the Class of 2017 CU System Excellence in Leadership program, and is an honorary member of the USS Colorado Alumni Association. In 2017 the UMC Board at the University of Colorado Boulder named a student leader scholarship in his honor: The Carlos García UMC Director’s Scholarship.
