Brett Fugate began his career at UCCS as an academic advisor in 2011 and has been the Director of the Academic Advising Office since 2015. The mission of Academic Advising at UCCS is “partnering with students to successfully navigate college” and Brett oversees 20 professional staff who are committed to this mission and to providing high quality, personalized, and comprehensive advising to all undergraduates. Because of the unique role academic advising plays in supporting all students, Brett has led initiatives and partnered with the campus to improve persistence, retention and graduation for students. He has also led the department through a transformation to be more holistic and developmental in its approach to student needs through the creation and implementation of a new strategic plan that focuses on student success and improvements to the student advising experience. Prior to joining UCCS, Brett had previously worked at Colorado State University-Pueblo as a First Year Advising Coach, responsible for guiding students in their freshmen year and improving retention of at-risk students at an Hispanic Serving Institute.
He holds a M.A. in Leadership from the University of Colorado Colorado Springs and a B.A. in Philosophy from Cornell University.
