Visual and Performing Arts Department Scholarships

The Visual and Performing Arts Department has two scholarships available for any student who has declared Visual and Performing Arts as their major--regardless of concentration. Scholarship details are below.

VAPA Department Scholarship Fund - Deadline March 1, 2020

Scholarship Details
The Visual and Performing Arts Department Scholarship Fund provides scholarship support to continuing students studying Visual and Performing Arts at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs. Although not renewable, previous recipients are encouraged to reapply for the award. Applicants will be notified of scholarship results in May.

Supplemental Questions

  1. In a MINIMUM OF 100 WORDS, provide a scholarly or creative work statement. Specifically, describe the background of your course of study and how you emphasize the importance of research, scholarship or creative work to your disciplinary practice. MAXIMUM OF 300 WORDS allowed. Essays will be ranked based upon artistic or scholarly intent, content, length, composition including grammar, spelling, organized structure, and attention to detail. You are encouraged to write an essay that captures the attention of the reader by using rich and interesting language.

  2. In a MINIMUM OF 100 WORDS, how will you use this scholarship? MAXIMUM OF 300 WORDS allowed. Summarize your commitment to your course of study and describe its importance to you now and in the future. Essays will be ranked based upon content, length, composition including, grammar, spelling, organized structure, and attention to detail. You are encouraged to write a thoughtful essay that grabs captures the attention of the reader by being creative in its creative expressiveness and imaginative use of language.

  3. Audio Section (for music majors): Be sure to include 3 samples of your work.

  4. Visual Section (for visual art majors): Be sure to include 4 samples of your work.

  6. For those in the history and theory of academic disciplines in VAPA such as art history, film theory, etc.: upload a sample of an essay submitted for coursework Identify title, subject and brief synopsis.

Reddy Arts Experience Scholarship - Deadline May 1, 2020

Scholarship Details
“The Arts Experience” offers awards of up to $1000 to support travel that enables students to complete creative projects, research, art-specific workshops, internships (or similar). These projects should constitute a significant educational experience for the applicant. Proposals should describe the intent and objectives of the project and show how this project will enhance, transform, support the growth of the applicant. Examples of fitting projects include the completion of location-based-study, archival research, experiencing arts/performance, creative works; or a combination of these. Interdisciplinary projects in the spirit of VAPA are especially welcome.


Requirements
Applicants must be undergraduate VAPA majors, currently enrolled, and meeting academic expectations. Projects must be completed before the completion of degree. Funds must be spent by the end of the following academic year.
 

Proposal*

  1. A project abstract (250 words)
  2. Answer the following questions:
    • How will this project benefit your personal and professional trajectory?
    • How do you envision using these funds?
    • What are the potential outcomes?

  4. Proposed Budget (see example below)

*If the project is dependent upon acceptance into a program, internship, workshop, please submit a letter acceptance or current proof of application. Awarding of funds will be dependent on eventual acceptance.

Public Presentation
After completion of the project, awardees must offer a public presentation, event, exhibition, concert, lecture-demo, screening, performance, community-interactive event, etc. that demonstrates the value of the experience and shares that value with the community. Public presentations must be completed by the end of the following academic year.

Submit a single PDF with the 4 proposal requirements (see Proposal section above) to VAPA Chair Suzanne MacAulay at smacaula@uccs.edu. Applications are due by 11:59pm on May 1st, 2020.


Award Decision Timeline
Committee selection will be made by May 15th.
