Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of a cognitive training program that may improve functioning in adults with histories of either concussion (also called mild traumatic brain injury or head injury) or post-traumatic stress.
Design: The study involves an initial in-person visit and a packet of take-home assessments to determine your fit for the study. If chosen to participate in the cognitive training, you will be asked to come in for a more comprehensive testing battery and then you will be randomly assigned to either a training group or to an educational group. The trainings involved two 3-hour group sessions and one 3-hour booster session after one month to complete. Total participation over 1 month will last approximately 19 hours, including testing. One week after the group sessions, you will come in for another comprehensive testing battery. Six months after the group sessions, you will be asked to come in for a final round of comprehensive testing.
- Must be 18-65 years old
- Have experienced either a head injury/concussion, OR
- Have experienced a psychological trauma followed by posttraumatic stress symptoms, such as nightmares, intrusive memories, irritability, etc.
- Able to read, comprehend, and speak English
- Open to civilians, Veterans, and active duty military personnel
Compensation: Participants who complete all assessments and visits can earn up to $250.
