Freshman Free Bike Program

Leave Your Car Home – Freshman Free Bike Program
Summer Housing Newsletter

In order to encourage and support alternative transportation on, to and from campus, UCCS will be providing a free new commuter bicycle to 25 incoming freshman students who live on campus and agree not to bring a car to campus. Transportation is second only to electricity in terms of campus greenhouse gas emissions. Bicycling offers the best alternative to decrease vehicular trips to reduce carbon emissions, improve air quality, reduce traffic congestion, increase safety a create a more attractive physical campus.

To apply, students must visit to submit an application prior to August 15th. A lottery for the 25 lucky recipients will take place and winners will be announced by August 19th. The students must attend 2 short bicycle clinics, one on bike maintenance and the other on biking safety, during the first 2 weeks of school. Upon completion of these clinics they will receive their free bicycle with helmet and lock. At the end of each semester, the students are required to report the mileage from the mile tracker installed on the bike. Students will return the bikes at the end of the Spring semester.

This program is funded by the UCCS Green Action Fund with support from Campus Recreation Student Outdoor Learning Experience (S.O.L.E.) and Students for Environmental Awareness and Sustainability (SEAS).
