Mary Lou Kartis, who received a BA in Sociology from the University of Colorado Colorado Springs, joined the School of Public Affairs in May of 1992 after working four years in Admissions and Records at UCCS. Ms. Kartis has a wide range of duties including budget and financial management, sponsored programs administration, human resources management, procurement, and general office administration.
In 2002 Ms. Kartis received the UCCS Outstanding Staff Award, based on her exceptional work skills, loyalty to the university, student service, workplace support and collegial work style. She was presented with the University of Colorado Staff Council Service Excellence Award in 2011. She served on the UCCS Staff Council as a representative (1992-2010), as a member of the Executive Board (2007-2010), and as a representative on the CU Systemwide Staff Council (2007-2010). Over the years she has served on a number of campus committees including the Family Development Center Advisory Board, several search committees, the blood drive committee, the efficiency and effectiveness committee, the UCCS SIS Replacement Project Advisory Committee, and the Graduate School Executive Committee. Despite the workload, she admits readily that she loves her job!
