Child Protection Symposium

Child Protection Symposium

In commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS), the School of Public Affairs’ will hold an awareness and education event focused on crimes against children, prevention and intervention during the School’s showcase in May 2015. This event coincides with national attention on threats to children, effective programs, and public engagement in child protection. Each year the Department of Justice (DOJ) commemorates Missing Children's Day (May 25th) with a ceremony honoring exemplary efforts of agencies, organizations, and individuals to protect children.

The Child Protection Symposium will include an overview of threats to children including abduction, abuse, neglect, internet crime, exploitation, and trafficking. The Symposium will also feature local efforts to protect children, a review of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children’s training for caregivers, and a panel discussion of child protection issues with local experts.
