Applying for your Benefit for the First Time

 Please do this early!  Submitting your paperwork just before the start of the term will result in payment delays. 

You must complete New Student Intake - complete the process below then contact our office for more information.

1. Chapter 33 and 30 - fill out VA Form 22-1990 through Vets.gov

    • Print the confirmation page for your records!   Your Certificate of Eligibility (COE) will be mailed to you in approximately 2 months.  
      • Bring it into our office for you New Student Intake appointment
    • Chapter 33 only - if you do not have a COE before the start of your first semester, then you need to complete then you need to complete the following with the OVMSA prior to the start of your first semester:
        • Signed Acknowledgment of Tuition Responsibility (available in the OVMSA) - the student is responsible for tuition payments until the Certificate of Eligibility arrives, including any late fees that are allowed to accrue.
        • Copy of your DD 214 Member 4
        • Proof of VA Form 22-1990 (either the printed confirmation page or VA email)
        • Once you receive your new Certificate of Eligibility, you must bring it into our office.

2. Chapter 1606 - fill out VA Form 22-1990 through Vets.gov

    • You must complete the Notice of Basic Eligibility (NOBE) with your unit first and then submit the 22-1990 through Vets.gov

    • If you will not have a Certificate of Eligibility before the start of your first semester, you may bring in your NOBE to your New Student intake appointment.

3. Chapter 31 - fill out VA Form 28-1990 through Vets.gov

    • Once you have applied for Chapter 31 you must wait for an Interview/Intake appointment with your Voc Rehab counselor.  Your counselor will provide further steps for you. Chapter 31 Books and Supplies

      • Complete a new Student Intake appointment in our office once your Voc Rehab contract is signed.

 

Transferring to UCCS from a school within the State of Colorado

You must complete New Student Intake - find your St. Louis Certificate of Eligibility, complete the Change of Program or Place of Training form listed below, and then contact our office for more information.

 1. Chapter 33, 30, 1606 - fill out the VA Form 22-1995, print it out and sign it.  

    • Then bring the paper copy of the VA Form 22-1995 along with your COE to our office for your New Student Intake appointment.

2. Chapter 31 - you need to work with your Voc Rehab counselor to initiate the change

 

Transferring to UCCS from a school outside the State of Colorado

You must complete New Student Intake - find your St. Louis Certificate of Eligibility, complete the Change of Program or Place of Training form listed below, and then contact our office for more information.

 1. Chapter 33, 30, 1606 - fill out the VA Form 22-1995 through Vets.gov

    • Chapter 33 only - if you do not have a new COE (with St. Louis on the top) before the start of your first semester, then you need to turn in the following prior to the start of your first semester:
      • Proof of VA Form 22-1995 (either the printed confirmation page or VA email)
      • Acknowledgment of Tuition Responsibility (available in the OVMSA) - the student is responsible for tuition payments until the Certificate of Eligibility arrives, including any late fees that are allowed to accrue.
      • Proof of your Eligibility (your old COE or a printout from eBenefits)
      • Once you receive your new Certificate of Eligibility, you must bring it into our office. 

2. Chapter 31 - you need to work with your Voc Rehab counselor to initiate the change

    • Complete a new Student Intake appointment in our office once your Voc Rehab contract is signed. 

 

Please remember that all students are ultimately responsible for their tuition. 

Prompt submission of your paperwork will ensure timely payment for your benefits. 

Late fees are not covered by the VA.
