VETS 2 (Veteran Educators Training and Support Program Module 2)

PTSD, TBI and De-escalation Procedures

VETS 2 discusses Posttraumatic Stress Disorder and mild Traumatic Brain Injury, two of the most well-recognized disorders resulting from our current military conflicts. The training will describe incidence, symptoms, risk factors, and current understanding about the development of PTSD & mTBI; overlapping symptoms; and how these disorders may affect students' ability to learn and adapt to classroom stressors.  The utility of academic accommodations for both these disorders will also be detailed.  Dr. Altayli, Wellness Center Director of Mental Health Services will then lead a discussion about de-escalation procedures to teach faculty and staff how best to manage potentially difficult interactions in and out of the classroom.
