Message from the Director in Response to the COVID-19 SITUATION at UCCS
The Excel Languages Center (LC) is rapidly adjusting to meet the needs of our students/faculty/staff while still prioritizing the health of our community and supporting social distancing practices. As UCCS transitioned to remote instruction, the Excel Languages Center will continue to provide students with academic support services. The same staff who have supported you in the center will continue to support your success, but tutoring sessions and conversation tables will be facilitated online through Microsoft Teams. You can email me directly with questions and concerns at email@example.com.
We are providing academic support services remotely March 16 - 20 & March 30 - May 14, 2020

Welcome to the Excel Languages Center
The Excel Languages Center (LC) models and supports academic excellence at UCCS through FREE DROP-IN and online support services for Spanish, French, German, Japanese, American Sign Language, Mandarin Chinese, and English (for international students).
The mission of the Excel Languages Center is to empower student success through collaborative learning, individualized tutoring, leadership development, and meaningful dialogues.
The Excel Languages Center (located in Dwire Hall 270) provides a supportive environment focused on academic achievement, language skills acquisition and development, the celebration of cultural diversity, and inclusive spaces that build community. We administer foreign language diagnostic proficiency assessments for the MAPS requirement at the request of Languages and Cultures faculty.
Our language conversation tables provide an enjoyable peer-guided space for language learners to come together and study while engaging in meaningful dialogues and cultural exchange. Interested in study abroad? Looking for access to foreign films? Want to supplement your personal language learning? The LC is a great place to do homework, access technology, interact with others, and achieve your language learning goals.
English Proficiency Test: We administer KITE for English proficiency testing (click link for more information) for international student admissions. Individuals interested in taking the KITE assessment will need to pay in advance and schedule an appointment.
Make-up tests/quizzes may be proctored in the center (at no cost to the student). Students should arrange for faculty to drop-off or email a test/quiz before scheduling a Starfish appointment.
Enjoy helping others? Want to improve your language skills? If your answer is yes, then come to Dwire 270 and apply to be a student employee! Contact us to find out how. *Workstudy is not required to apply.
Conversation Tables: FREE and OPEN to ALL Students/Staff/Faculty
Conversation tables are an ideal opportunity to practice. Come interact with fellow language learners and engage in lively discussions about language, culture, and travel. You can also join and contribute in your first/second/third language.
Improve your language skills and earn better grades!
The Excel Languages Center resources and services support your academic success. Students utilizing multiple Excel Centers persist and graduate at a higher rate than their peers who do not. Smart students utilize their resources to maximize their success.
