Welcome to the Excel Languages Center

The Excel Languages Center (LC) models and supports academic excellence at UCCS through FREE DROP-IN and online support services for Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Latin, American Sign Language, Chinese, and English (for international students).

The mission of the Excel Languages Center is to empower student success through collaborative learning, individualized tutoring, leadership development, and meaningful dialogues.

The Excel Languages Center (located in Dwire Hall 270) provides a supportive environment focused on academic achievement, language skills acquisition and development, the celebration of cultural diversity, and inclusive spaces that build community. We administer foreign language diagnostic proficiency testing for MAPS requirements and assist with appropriate course sequence placement.

Our language conversation tables provide an enjoyable peer-guided space for students, faculty, staff, and community members to come together and practice a language of interest while engaging in meaningful dialogues and cultural exchange. Interested in study abroad? Looking for access to foreign films? Want to supplement your personal language learning? The LC is a great place to do homework, access computers/scanner/printer, interact with others who value diversity, and achieve your language learning goals.

Non-native English users: We administer KITE English proficiency testing for international student admissions. Individuals interested in taking the KITE assessment will need to pay and schedule an appointment

You may access center updates via our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/uccslanguages/).

Want better grades?
Regularly attending tutoring sessions early and often supports your academic achievement. Students who regularly utilize multiple Excel Centers (spaces and services) persist at higher levels than their peers who do not.
FREE and OPEN Conversation Tables
Conversation tables are an ideal opportunity to practice your fluency and increase your cultural competence (regardless of whether you are enrolled in a course or not). Practice, practice, practice! Come interact with fellow language learners and engage in lively discussions about language, culture, and travel. International students are encouraged to join and practice their English communication skills as well as other languages.
Enjoy helping others and want more leadership opportunities? Want to work on campus? Interested in enhancing your own language skills? If your answer is yes, then join our student staff team! Call us at 719.255.3690 or e-mail langsctr@uccs.edu to find out how.
