Valerie Martin Conley, PhD is dean of the College of Education at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs, where she also holds the rank of tenured full professor in the department of Leadership, Research, and Foundations. Prior to joining UCCS, Dr. Conley served as a faculty member, center director, and department chair at Ohio University. Dr. Conley launched her career in higher education working as a government contractor and consultant to the U.S. Department of Education’s National Center for Education Statistics. Among her accomplishments, she provided leadership for the production of the 1994 Condition of Education and served as the special assistant to the project officer for the National Study of Postsecondary Faculty. An experienced Institutional Researcher, Dr. Conley served on the board of directors for the Association for Institutional Research from 2007–2009. She is a TIAA Institute Research Fellow and co-author of The Faculty Factor: Reassessing the American Academy in a Turbulent Era published by Johns Hopkins University Press in 2016. Dr. Conley holds the degrees Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in Sociology from the University of Virginia, and a PhD in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from Virginia Tech.
