Carla Sides – Teacher – Academy School District 20
Carla earned a Bachelors Degree in Economics from Colorado College and a Masters
Degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Reading from UCCS. She
also holds a Certificate in Gerontology from The University of Denver.
Over the years, Carla worked for American Airlines, Colorado College, Lutheran
Family Services, and the Pikes Peak Area Agency on Aging. She began her career in
education by tutoring and teaching English as a Second Language students and adult
education. She completed the BOCES Teacher in Residence Program to transition to
a full-time classroom teacher and continues as a teacher at Academy District 20.
Carla’s interests include yoga, hiking, travel, cooking, and art.
She is involved in committees to improve emotional intelligence and
communication, the Principal’s Advisory Council, book clubs, Dr. Swaby’s LOGO
Reading Program, the AFS Student Exchange Program, tutoring children in reading,
