Janet Kerr, MA, LPC
Janet Kerr has advocated for Domestic and Sexual Violence prevention since 1986. As a consultant she provides training to law enforcement, prosecutors, judges, child protection workers, medical professionals, advocacy agencies about these issues. She has provided training to the FBI, the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center the State Department and more. Her focus has broadened to Gender-Based Violence issues in the humanitarian aid context, working with Doctors Without Borders and the International Rescue Committee in Darfur, Sudan.
Prior to consulting, Ms Kerr was Executive Director of TESSA in Colorado Springs where she worked with staff, volunteers and Board Members. She oversaw programs for adult and child survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault such as: an emergency Safehouse, a 24-hour Crisisline, a Child & Youth Program, and Counseling and Sexual Assault services. She was involved with TESSA's Resource Development Program, including training, volunteers, and fundraising. She helped to develop the nationally recognized Domestic Violence Enhanced Response Team (DVERT), a multi-disciplinary domestic violence initiative.
She has served on Boards such as: State Victims Assistance and Law Enforcement, Colorado Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Colorado Coalition Against Sexual Assault, Joint Initiatives for Youth and Families, and the Fourth Judicial Districts Victim Compensation Board. As an adjudicated expert, she provides testimony in domestic violence and sexual assault court cases throughout Colorado.
