COVID-19 HR Guidance

The university is closely monitoring the rapidly changing situation with coronavirus (COVID-19). UCCS will begin to transition to remote working for a majority of employees starting on Monday, March 16.
Please note that the campus is not closed. Essential staff required to maintain operations for students living in the residence halls and to maintain campus operations will still report to campus. All other employees will begin working remotely with a work plan created by their supervisor. This remote working status will be in effect at least through Friday, May 15.
Please know that all campus wide decisions are being made with the health and safety of our community at the forefront, and with the best-available guidance from public health authorities. This is a fluid situation. Check this website frequently for changes in employee guidance.

Beginning Monday, March 16th, all employees will fall into one of the following categories:
Essential Services Employees: Essential staff required to maintain operations for students living in the residence halls and to maintain campus operations will still report to campus. All essential employees will be notified by their supervisor of their status.
Critical Operations Employees: Employees designated as critical will work remotely or on campus, as directed by their supervisor, while continuing to perform their normal duties. All employees designated as critical operations employees will be notified by their supervisor of their status and should work remotely unless other arrangements have been made with leadership.
All Other Employees: All other employees will begin working remotely with a work plan created by their supervisor. Supervisors should work with employees as much as possible to allow flexible/alternate work schedules for employees who are caring for family members in their home, including children who may not be in school. All employees, including Classified Staff, should complete an Alternate Work Schedule/Location Request and Agreement and departments should submit the form to HR via email@example.com. Student employee forms should be submitted to firstname.lastname@example.org. This remote working status will be in effect at least through Friday, May 15. For departments with a large number of employees working remotely, please send a list of all staff working remotely to email@example.com with a separate list of student employees to firstname.lastname@example.org. Alternate work location request forms should still be completed for all employees and can be submitted to HR or Student Employment when normal campus operations resume.
UCCS will provide paid administrative leave to those healthy employees (university, classified staff, and 12-month faculty) who are not able to work remotely. Supervisors and departments are responsible for determining whether the individual is able to complete job duties remotely.
Reasons that an individual may not be able to work remotely include, but are not limited to:
- Job duties not conducive for remote working
- No access to laptops, home internet, etc.
If a healthy employee cannot work remotely the time should be coded in My Leave as Administrative Leave with a comment, “Healthy employee unable to work remotely. Supervisor approved administrative leave.”
If an employee is sick or caring for a sick family member they should not be asked to work remotely and should record their time in My Leave as sick or family sick leave.
