Auction Item #1: Got a Handle on It: "Circus"
Artist: Sean O'Meallie

polychrome wood, birch, maple, steel, bronze, nylon, Krylon, wax | h23" w17" d7"
signed and dated on spiral bottom:  "s.o'meallie.6.13" | retail value:  $3000-$4000

Sean O'Meallie is an accomplished sculptor with a background in toy design and fine art. His work is held in museum, corporate, public and private collections worldwide. LeMieux Galleries represents the artist and writes:

"Sean O'Meallie has a background in practical toy conception which becomes apparent when one realizes how they were induced to look at his work. From there, a cerebral and incisive wit takes you someplace you weren't expecting: thought fields both familiar and risky. O'Meallie's touchable painted wood sculptures speak playfully to an innate viewership by using cultural symbols and recombinant ideas."

Got a Handle on It was originally created in 2004 and belonged to a private collector in Sean's hometown - New Orleans. In 2005, the piece was lost in hurricane Katrina. His recreation of this piece exclusively for BRILLIANT 2013 illuminates his support for the arts in his current city of Colorado Springs. O'Meallie currently serves as a GOCA Advisory Board Member and will be featured in a major two-person exhibition with Jason Chase in October, 2014 in GOCA1420. www.seanomeallie.com
