Brilliant 2014

BRILLIANT is an annual creative extravaganza that raises critical financial support needed to realize future gallery programs, exhibits, and innovative collaborations. This year it happened downtown - taking over the Nosh Restaurant patio + GOCA121 gallery space for one night of immersive art, innovative original performances, delicious food + drink, and creativity on a grand scale.

styrobot: nothing comes from nothing
Michael Salter
January 24 - March 22, 2013

Michael Salter sifts through mass media and corporate branding to find poignant, absurd and baffling pieces that become part of his work. This GOCA exhibit was a darling of the press and the local community, who loved being part of the material sourcing as well as taking in the final product.

Two Galleries. Twice the Culture.

We're on a mission: to bring exhilarating art experience that spark engaged thinking, questioning, wondering and socializing. GOCA isn't stuffy, snobby or a snoozefest. We'rea place for the people: where exhibitions are free, refreshments are plentiful and humor is more than welcome.

Art that's food for thought.

The great thing about contemporary art is that it encompasses diverse perspectives and disciplines, and we are privileged to bring them all together every year.

But diversity in art doesn't mean exhibits that are inaccessible, confusing - or worse yet - boring. We seek and curate new artists, ideas, exhibits and events that bring people of all walks of life together, stimulating minds and providing ways to engage art on every level.

From concerts, dance parties and pop-up performances to local, regional and national artists that have never been shown in Colorado, you're guaranteed to always see something new at GOCA.

Chit Chat

What do you get when you combine two expert speakers with two diverse topics with a DIY project and an intimate gathering? One of our most popular programs at GOCA. These interactive evenings let people explore art and culture in a hands-on way. Add a splash of beer and wine, and it's no surprise these evenings always fill up quickly.

AWOL (Art WithOut Limits) Project
WALDSTERBEN: Sudden Aspen Decline
De Lane Bredvik
July - October, 2013

De Lane Brevik is known for immersive, poetic and spacial installations. This installation took over the atrium near the gallery, featuring soaring 30-foot-tall ensconced patrons in an interconnected aspen forest.

What if...?

What if we installed an aspen forest in the lobby of a business building? What if race cars can be art? What if we could make it rain inside? What if art didn't say on the walls?

We love answering that question. Curiosity is the hunger to explore, and at GOCA, that hunger is well-fed.

We break the boundaries of art in off the wall (literally!) ways and interactive, unique art experiences. Not content with the status quo, we pursue risk-taking exhibits, large-scale installation and thought-provoking events that invite you to ask questions and delight in discovery.

Art & Wine

At these events, curiosity reigns supreme. Art&Wine pairs a vintner, the curator, exhibiting artists, patrons and board members together in a casual atmosphere. Tasting, discussion and learning about wine happens in tandem with discussion and learning about art: how an artist created a piece, how people perceive the art, plus up close and personal access to the gallery and artists.

Surprise, delight, astonish.

Art isn't just about engaging your brain, but awakening your sense of wonder. Curating exhibits that evoke emotion and stir your soul is what we strive for.

Beyond bringing innovative, boundary-breaking exhibits to our galleries, we host regular programs and events that continue to surprise and delight our community.

Our events build on concepts in the exhibits in related and independent ways, and they are all about sensory experiences: talking, touching, learning, dancing, tasting.
Fact: you'll feel smarter and inspired after attending.
We promise.

The biggest event we throw, BRILLIANT is an annual art party of the highest magnitude. Performances, ambitious installations, exquisite food and drink, and the energy of the several hundred 'artiers' who attend makes for a memorable celebration of local art and culture. This year we were honored with the aptly-named Creative/Intriguing/Astonishing Award from the Pikes Peak Art Council for they dynamo of an event.

This one-hour, lunchtime dance party hosted by GOCA attracted hundreds of people this year. Traveling between the galleries and other creative location in the city, dancers became the performative art-letting loose, enjoying unique DJ sets and connecting with other people celebrating the day.

Building a community, not an audience.

Galleries are always competing with other demands on people's attention, so we have to stay on top of what's interesting and worthwhile, providing unique and quality cultural experiences.

Good thing we're on a mission to do just that. But we don't do it alone. We need you.

We're art for the people, with the people, by the people. Building our art community is hard work, but great work we do together. And when we invest in creating culture, the payback is rich.

GOCA supporters are an integral part of this culture. They attend exhibits, contribute funds, participate in events and, quite literally, become part of the art. We wouldn't have it any other way.

Hosted at your flagship gallery on campus, Yoga@GOCA invites yogis of all levels for a meditative experience amongst the artwork on display. Sun salutations with a side of art is a great, relaxing way to spend an hour.
