One of the most important educational tools you will use while at UCCS is Blackboard. In high school, you might have had some kind of online system to check your grades (like PowerSchool or Infinite Campus), so think of Blackboard as your college version of those systems. Most professors (but not all of them), will use Blackboard as a place to put the syllabus, grades, discussion boards, and even sometimes quizzes for students to take. It can also be used as a way for students to turn in assignments and for professors to send out class announcements.
There are a few key places to check whenever you log into Blackboard, such as the pull down bar on the top right corner, as it gives you a quick look at new updates, your classes and other important pieces. On the left hand side, after clicking on a class, you will find all of the ways your professor will use Blackboard. This left side bar might look a little different for each class depending on what your professor would like you to have access to and be involved in as part of the class. If you ever have any questions about what a professor puts in Blackboard, email them or visit them during their office hours for further explanations.
Disclaimer: Not all professors use Blackboard, so if your class is not showing up or there are not any current grades recorded for a class, make sure to check in with your professor to find out how you are doing in class. It is ok to email a professor to ask what your grade is in a class, how well they think you are doing, and if there is room for any improvement.
