Social Media Issues Facing Educators Seminar (8am-noon)

Social Media Issues Facing Educators Seminar will offer educators foundational insight from application experts to address the increasing normality of student communication using available and emerging social mediums and technologies.

Educators will leave understanding the liabilities facing school districts and the proper steps they should take when an incident occurs:
  • Review popular communication mediums including, but not limited to, Kik, Omegle, Ask.fm, Vine, Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook, You Tube, Snapchat and Instagram.
  • Explore emerging issues relating to misconduct between students and faculty at various levels of education and the associated liabilities resulting from these dynamics.
  • Focused discussions on the interaction between law enforcement and school districts will provide participants with ability to adapt strategic direction in the quickly evolving digital age.
  • Provide examples of various criminal investigations facing teachers and school districts, as well as the importance of communicating and working along side local law enforcement.

Physical & Virtual Threats Schools Encounter Seminar (12:30pm-4:30pm)

In a rapidly changing world, threats to our schools and school children present a significant challenge to parents, educators and law enforcement. Advances in technology has added complexities to the detection and tracking of these threats.

The Physical & Virtual Threats Schools Encounter Seminar is focused on providing educators with a core knowledge base of existing and emerging trends including, but not limited to cyberbullying, sexting and sextortion.
  • Engage in interactive presentations which review local and national tragedies, including the Columbine High School shooting.
  • Explore various communication platforms and methods used by perpetrators, as well as understand warning signs and necessary action steps to confront these threats.
