Bachelor of Science Education Degree

A multidisciplinary education degree with a background in engineering.

The Engineering Education degree prepares secondary teachers with a STEM education degree (science, technology, engineering, and math). This 4-year multi-disciplinary degree program includes background in engineering and technology, exposure to teaching experiences throughout and culminates in student teaching in a local classroom. Graduates completing this degree will be eligible for educator licensing in Colorado in both math and science.

Bachelor of Innovation Degrees™ are a unique family of degrees available only at UCCS. Combining traditional degrees with an innovation core to teach the process of transforming ideas into impact and implementation.

The Bachelor of Innovation in Computer Science provides students with both the technical and business background to work on innovative computer-related projects.

The program seeks to prepare students for successful careers and lifelong learning. In addition to the technical competence expected of a graduate with a bachelor’s degree in computer science, students will develop the innovative thinking skills, multifaceted team skills and basic business knowledge to ensure that they can effectively compete in the changing computer career landscape for positions that are unlikely to be off-shored.

PhD in Engineering

The PhD is a terminal degree that qualifies the degree holder to teach in their chosen subject field at the university level, work in research areas in their specialized field, or continue to actively pursue research for publication. Candidates pursue extensive and original research and present results in a thesis or dissertation. Students will have a tenured professor serve as advisor based on the research interest area.

The Doctor of Philosophy is a degree that is conferred on a student who has demonstrated proficiency in some broad area of learning, and who has proven that he or she has the capability to evaluate work in the field critically. Individuals who engineer computer based systems or develop policy and doctrine for these systems where information assurance is an objective require knowledge of the methods, techniques, and tools used in information operations. Information operations include those actions taken to gain, defend, or attack information or information systems. The threats and vulnerabilities are applicable in the commercial as well as the military world.
This certificate provides a solid foundation in communication system concepts, a broad introduction to the entire spectrum of information operations, and advanced study of information assurance topics. The final two courses cover in-depth the protection of information through cryptographic methods and the design and management of systems from a security viewpoint.

Students completing the four courses will receive a Graduate Certificate in Secure Software Systems from UCCS. In addition, the courses can constitute 40% of the following programs: Master of Science in Computer Science, Master of Engineering with focus in Information Assurance (MEIA) or Software Systems Engineering (MESSE). In addition, it can be used in the Ph.D. in Engineering degree program.
Our MEIA degree program and curriculum are certified by the National Security Agency's (NSA) Committee on National Security Systems (CNSS) and meet the Information Assurance Professional (4011) Training Standards. Successful graduates of the MEIA degree program will receive the CNSS Information Assurance Professional (4011) certificate without additional testing requirements.
