Erica L. Nagel Allgood earned her B.A. in Communication Studies from the University of Pittsburgh, an M.A. in Communication Studies from Kent State University, and a Ph.D. in Education with an Organizational Leadership emphasis from Northcentral University. Dr. Allgood has always balanced her career in both higher education and other professional arenas. It is evident that higher education is her passion – helping students develop their communication skills in order to be successful members of society.
During her 25+ years in academia, Dr. Allgood taught a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses in communication at Kent State University and Regis University before arriving at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs (UCCS). Those courses include Public Speaking, Advanced Public Speaking, Business and Professional Communication, Conflict Management, Leadership Principles, Team Leadership, Persuasion, Organizational Communication, Change Management, Group Dynamics, Research Methods, and Capstone. She has served as a Department Chair, Assistant Professor, Lead Faculty, and Affiliate Faculty. Dr. Allgood has received several awards including Outstanding Service to Faculty and a Special Contribution Award for Outstanding Dedication and Service at Regis University, and she was also nominated for the Educator of the Year award at UCCS.
Dr. Allgood has also owned and operated Enhanced Communication, an organizational communication training and consulting business, for 20+ years, specializing in training and coaching in leadership development, conflict management, change management, and team dynamics. She provided her clients with a full assessment, customized development of materials, individual and group training and consulting, and management reports to detail employee achievement. Previous clients include Colorado Springs Utilities, Academy School District 20, Wells Fargo, MCI-WorldCom, Walter-Drake, The Gazette, Air Academy Federal Credit Union, Mutual of Omaha, and Regis University. Her facilitation, coaching, and training closely works with C-Level employees, middle management, and front line employees to enhance their communication skills through transformational processes to manage organizational change, alleviate conflict, develop leadership skills, work well as a team, and effectively deliver presentations.
Dr. Allgood has co-authored a team training text, The Team Trainer: Winning Tools and Tactics for Successful Workouts, jointly published by the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD, now ATD) and Irwin Professional Publishing (now McGraw-Hill). The text provides background in small group communication theory and concepts as well as the inclusion of various small group training activities. Her research has focused on organizational change, resistance to change, authentic leadership, and strategy execution and its gap. She strives to model authentic leadership outlined in her research.
With always a passion for the field of communication, Dr. Allgood was well-suited for her role as the Director of the Communication Center at UCCS. She loves higher education and has had a lifetime goal to enhance people’s effective communication, no matter the context or the audience. She loves to see the confidence build in students as they practice and develop their knowledge and skills in communication, in order to make them successful in their academic and professional lives. She gets to witness that every day in her classroom and in the Communication Center, making this position the perfect fit!
