Competency in communication is critical in order to be a literate and informed citizen. One of the key goals of a UCCS education is to prepare students to excel academically, professionally, and personally. The Excel Communication Center provides students with the motivation, knowledge, and skills to effectively communicate in a variety of contexts. The Excel Communication Center supports comprehensive, personalized, and group educational experiences for students across all majors and colleges to help them develop communication competence in their discipline. The Excel Communication Center strives to help students achieve their educational, professional, and personal goals and develop an enhanced understanding of themselves as members of the community.
The Excel Communication Center exists to promote excellent communication and academic success for all students at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS). Excel Communication Center peer tutors work toward these goals by offering a variety of services, including presentation outlining assistance, pre-presentation practice and feedback, post-presentation viewing and feedback on recorded presentations, in-center mock interviews, virtual mock interviews for online students, group project facilitation, and visual aid preparation and feedback utilizing PowerPoint and Prezi. The Excel Communication Center Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTA's) and Outreach Coordinator work together to offer various Communication Across the Curriculum outreach workshops. These no-cost workshops, offered both in center and in the classroom, benefit students and assist faculty in the areas of Conflict Management, the Eight Competencies of Public Speaking, Group Dynamics, and SCRAP (Simple, Contrast, Repetition, Alignment, and Proficiency).
