BA in Communication
Degree Requirements and Information
A Bachelor of Arts in Communication requires 36 credit hours in Communication courses with 18 of those credits being upper division. There are five track options including General Communication, Organizational & Strategic Communication, Leadership Communication, Media Studies, and Digital Filmmaking & Media Arts.
Students pursuing a degree in Communication prepare themselves for a broad range of employment opportunities in both the public and private sectors. An internship for advanced students with a 3.0 GPA is available in certain tracks. Internships are not available for students minoring in Communication. The General Communication track allows students to prepare for a career in communication with courses tailored to the individual student’s interests and career objectives.
All Communication Majors must take COMM 2030. All Comm. Majors take 3 of the Foundation Courses, the 5 required courses in their Track, and 3 courses from the list of electives in their Track. Some Foundation Courses may be taken as electives, but cannot be counted as both a Foundation Course and an Elective.
All graduating Communication Majors must take an exit exam that samples the student’s understanding of the major concepts of his/her content area. Students will take the exam during their last semester. Graduating seniors will receive information regarding test times, dates, and locations. To graduate with a degree in Communication, students must have a 2.0 GPA or better.
