Secondary Education options in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics
To enroll in CHEM 1401, you must pass the Chemistry Placement Test unless you have satisfied one of the following:
Completed CHEM 1001 or MATH 1040 with a grade of “C” or better
Placed into MATH 1050
How long does the test take?
You are allowed 55 minutes to complete the test. The timer starts as soon as you click “Take the Quiz” and cannot be paused.
What score do I need to pass?
The test consists of 60 questions and you must earn a score of 30 or higher to place into CHEM 1401.
What if I don't pass the test?
You will need to satisfy one of the other prerequisite options for CHEM 1401:
Pass CHEM 1001 or MATH 1040 with a grade of “C” or better, or
Place into MATH 1050, or
Pass the Chemistry Placement Test in a subsequent semester
How do I take the Chemistry Placement Test?
You must use an internet-connected computer with the Chrome, Firefox, or Safari browser. Do not attempt to take the test on a smartphone or tablet, and the use of a Wi-Fi connection is discouraged. You should have access to a calculator, periodic table, and pencil and paper.
Read the instructions for the test, and if desired, review the Practice Problems before taking the test.
After completing the test, note your score for your records. Your score will sync to your student portal within two to three business days, at which point you will be able to register for CHEM 1401 if you have earned a score of 30 or higher.
