UCCS Sport Management student, Kevin Gusinde, explains his experiences interning for the Colorado Rapids.
The Colorado Rapids and the University of Colorado Colorado Springs Sport Management have partnered together to give students the chance to participate in a fellowship program with the club. Each month, one of the selected fellows will detail their journey from the classroom to Dick's Sporting Goods Park. Below is our first piece from student Kevin Gusinde.
My experience with the Colorado Rapids has been incredible so far. From the very first day we were treated as a part of the Rapids family. So far, I have gotten to know many people who have different responsibilities, such as event planning or stadium operations, yet are required to work together to create a unique experience for everyone at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.
A big part of what I've done so far includes working with the Street Team. The first event that I was a part of was the Jersey Launch Party in Denver, which turned out to be a huge success. That event was a great learning experience and an insight to all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes.
As great as the Jersey Launch Party was, the home opener against the LA Galaxy will probably be one of my favorite experiences. I was fortunate enough to be part of the game day operations team. Our tasks included pre-game preparations, such as putting the big banner on the center circle, and the half-time show. Walking on to the field with thousands of fans around you screaming with joy and being only a couple of steps away from the coaches and players is a unique and special experience that only the world of sports can provide. Being part of such a welcoming, tight-knit community really makes for a great and unforgettable experience that was made possible by UCCS.
