A Program of Distinction
In the fall of 2008 the College of Business at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs initiated a new undergraduate program in Sports Management. Building upon the college's highly successful PGA Golf Management Program, the Sport Management Program has already established some of the highest academic standards on the UCCS campus. Designed as a program of distinction, the Sport Management Program limits admission to 86 students per year and we do this because:
- We emphasize faculty-student interaction and engagement. Our class sizes are capped at 43 students, meaning you won't be lost in a sea of other students.
- We have intentionally limited the size of our program in order to ensure that every student in our Sport Management Program has the opportunity to engage in meaningful internship experiences.
The bottom line is that by keeping our program small, our students receive the personal attention and internship experiences that are required to maximize opportunities for building successful careers in the field of sports management. Of course this also means that there is high competition for these spots.
Location! Location! Location!
Colorado Springs is situated on the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains offering our community excellent access to some of the country's best skiing, mountain biking, hiking, fly fishing, and rafting. No matter your personal preference, Colorado Springs has something to offer you!
With unparalleled access to directors and managers of some of the most prestigious sports organizations in the world, Colorado Springs arguably offers the best location in the country to pursue a degree in Sports Management. The headquarters of the U.S. Olympic Committee, along with approximately 23 National Governing Bodies, are located within miles of campus. In addition, our program has an exclusive partnership with the Colorado Rapids and our community is home to seven collegiate athletic departments and conferences, the Sky Sox AAA Baseball Team, the Switchbacks F.C., the Colorado Springs Sports Corp, and many more. Please learn more about our great locations and internship opportunities here.
Developing International Connections
With our emphasis on the Olympic movement and international soccer it makes sense that we would be interested in looking overseas for exciting international internship and educational opportunities. From Beijing - where one of our graduates now serves as Associate Vice President Business Affairs with the NBA China - to Great Britain - where we have worked with marketing managers and CEOs of top Premier League soccer clubs as well as established relationships with many international universities giving our students study-abroad opportunities - we are making contacts and laying the groundwork for an expanded international experience for select students in our program.
Accreditation ensures a standard of quality that is expected in today's increasingly competitive marketplace. The UCCS College of Business has been accredited by AACSB since 1989 and this brings many benefits to our college, students and faculty including:
- AACSB accreditation represents the highest standard of academic recognition for business schools worldwide with less than 5% internationally and 30% nationally meeting this standard
- Increased diversity and qualification in the faculty teaching you that will bring the most relevant issues, concepts and materials into the classroom
- Elevated admission standards that will motivate students to maintain the high degree of academic standing expected of them
Graduates in the field
The graduates from our program earn a Bachelor's degree in Business with an emphasis in Sport Management. Although the sport industry is one of the most competitive industries in the world our graduates have been highly successful in finding management careers. Within 3-6 months of graduation, the vast majority of our students have secured a position in their career field.
Examples of careers our alumni have held are Associate Vice President of Business Affairs for NBA China, Associate Executive Director of Business & Development for USA Weightlifting, Group Events Coordinator for the Tacoma Rainiers, Assistant Athletic Director at the University of Northern Colorado and Vice President of Productions for the Human Movement Organization.
