We are not currently accepting applications for the 2018-19 school year.

Admission to the program is competitive on controlled enrollment. Applicants meeting the priority enrollment deadline will be given preference for available seats in the program. Remaining applicants meeting the final admission deadline will be awarded admission based on availability of seats.


  • Bachelor degree from an accredited college or university
  • BOC for athletic training certified (ATC) or eligible by semester of admission Undergraduate Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above
    • or equivalent certification, for example: Canadian Certified Athletic Therapist
  • Undergraduate Major GPA of 3.0 or above

Priority Application Deadline: All materials received by January 31st
Seats in the program will first be filled with students meeting this deadline. Students seeking a graduate assistantship as an athletic trainer or research assistant must meet this deadline for priority consideration. Students seeking an athletic training graduate assistantship should follow the instructions for a GA position below.

Final Admission Deadline: All materials received by June 1.
Student meeting this deadline will be considered if seats are still available.

Apply online and supply the following documentation

  • Signed in-state tuition form
  • 3 letters of reference
  • Selective service form (if applicable)
  • Submit one official transcript from degree-granting institution. Application fee of $60.00; International application fee $100.00
    • Transcript must include at least courses enrolled in during the final semester prior to graduation. Additional transcripts may be required to verify prerequisites or major coursework.
    • You will be notified if additional transcripts are required to verify prerequisites or major coursework taken at institutions other than your degree granting institution. If you know that you have taken major or pre-requisite courses from an institution other than your degree granting institution you should have those transcripts submitted with your application.

**Revised GRE (taken after Aug 1, 2011): Completion of GRE with a recommended minimum score of 290 combined on math and verbal. Analytical writing recommended minimum score of 4. Scores must be submitted to UCCS. UCCS institution code: 4874
**Old GRE: Completion of GRE with a recommended minimum score of 900 combined on math and verbal; analytical writing recommended minimum score of 4. Scores must be submitted to UCCS.

  • Completion of at least 6 credits of Human Anatomy and Physiology with laboratory (does not include exercise physiology)
  • Completion of Nutrition I or comparable course (UCCS course HSCI 2070)
  • Mandatory Background Check
  • Recommended:
    • Completion of undergraduate inferential statistics such as HSCI 2060

International Applicants
In addition to the admissions requirements above, international applicants:

  • Must take both the TOEFL and the GRE if English is not the primary language. (TOEFL recommended score is 89);
  • May be required to participate in a Skype interview as part of the interview process to assist with English proficiency evaluation; and
  • May be required to pay for the verification of accreditation of their university transcripts.  

International students currently studying in the U.S. on F-1 visa and either applied for the optional practical training (OPT) or currently on OPT, please note, that UCCS encourages immediate internship placement which will meet the OPT requirement set forth by the visa regulation. Immediate internship participation will allow students to receive curriculum practical training eligibility upon receipt of approved internship/career placement. Internship opportunities should be discussed directly with the academic advisor and are not guaranteed until the applicant has been accepted by the academic program and UCCS.
