In AFROTC, you will not only develop your knowledge and skills as a leader in the classroom, you will also apply them for two hours per week in the Leadership Laboratory. There, you will develop your demonstration of command, effective communication, physical fitness, and knowledge of military customs and courtesies. Leadership Laboratory is an excellent environment to improve your verbal communication, planning and organizational skills. You will gain valuable hands-on leadership management experience with your peers.
All Leadership Laboratory activities are held at the UCCS campus on Fridays afternoons from 1340 - 1540. A brief synopsis of the AFROTC Leadership Laboratory that you are required to take each semester throughout your ROTC career is found below:
Class: AFAS 1000
Description: One 2-hour Leadership Laboratory per week. This course provides first-year cadets an informative and motivational program designed to recruit, retain, and familiarize cadets with the Air Force way of life and foster leadership, followership, teamwork, and esprit de corps. This course provides cadets scheduled to attend Field Training with the mental and physical skills needed to succeed in the AFROTC Field Training environment. This course provides cadets returning from Field Training sufficient opportunities to demonstrate and develop the leadership and management skills needed to successfully function as active duty officers. This course provides cadets to be commissioned additional opportunities to demonstrate and develop the leadership and management skills needed to successfully function as an active duty officer and to adequately prepare them to transition from the AFROTC environment to active duty.
