The White Privilege Conference presents the Youth Leadership Conference

Concurrent with the WPC, we are offering a Youth Leadership Conference for High School students Thurs, April 8 & Fri, April 9. This will include workshops, performances, caucuses, andaffinity groups specially designed for youth and facilitated by some of the nation’s most talented youth advocates and artists.

Workshops will feature film, dance, yoga, spoken word, music and Theatre of the Oppressed techniques as well as small and large group discussions to address issues of heritage, identity, language, isms, labels, power & privilege, teamwork, and strategies for community action.

On Saturday, April 10th, youth will join the larger WPC conference and can choose to attend anyof the youth friendly WPC conference workshops and activities. Additionally, YLC participants and chaperones should plan to attend the conference youth celebration Saturday morning as it will feature the youth voice.

YLC OBJECTIVE:  Provide youth-friendly and youth-specific workshops, caucuses and space that engage issues of white privilege, white supremacy, and oppression within the larger structure of The White Privilege Conference.  The Youth Institute is geared for youth of any ethnic background in grades 9-12 who are prepared to seriously engage issues of race, racial identity, privilege, oppression, and social change.

Youth may register for undergraduate academic credit for their participation and outside work, which can be transferred to other colleges and Universities. See the WPC website section: CEUs and Academic credit. For more information contact aferber@uccs.edu. Financial assistance available.

WPC

The White Privilege Conference (WPC) serves as an annual opportunity to examine difficult issues related to white privilege and oppression. This conference is not about beating up on white folks. It is about all of us working together to critically examine the society in which we live, and then taking steps to dismantle systems of power and privilege. WPC is recognized as a challenging, empowering and educational experience. The workshops, keynotes and institutes not only inform participants, but also engage and challenge them, while providing practical tips and strategies for combating racial inequality.
