Introduction:

In 2005, I was appointed to Full Professor of Information Systems and Faculty Director for the Center for Entrepreneurship in the College of Business at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. From 1996 to 2000, I was an Associate Professor in Accounting and MIS at California State University, Chico. This webpage is designed to provide students direct access to my current class webpages and to present a general summary of my business experience and academic background.

Business Background

1989 - 1996: Co-founder; Vice President, Research & Development; President of Ventana Corporation, a technology spin-off company from the University of Arizona created to commercialize a groupware product called GroupSystems. In 1994, GroupSystems won PC Magazine's Editor's Choice Award for Best Electronic Meeting Software.

Teaching Background:
My teaching philosophy has always been to create a proactive learning environment for students. To this end, I try to incorporate as much active learning into class assignments and course work as possible. Over the past five years, I have taught 38 class sections of 8 different courses in the area of Management Information Systems. This area of business school curriculum concentrates on educating students in how computers are used in business. The courses have ranged from introductory programming classes to senior level, capstone classes. The titles of the courses are listed below:

  • e-Business - introduction to business concepts and business decisions surrounding e-business
  • Introduction to Business Programming - introduction to programming principles with Visual Basic
  • Business Report Design & Development - introduction to computer programming with COBOL
  • Group Decision Support Systems – introduction to project teamwork and group process

  • Data Center Administration - senior MIS capstone class

Publications: One of the key responsibilities of a faculty member is to publish and participate in their chosen academic field. The purpose of this process is two-fold. First, the faculty member remains up-to-date and current with the trends and progress in their field. Second, current information can be brought into the classroom to enhance the education process.
