Kirsten Ortega teaches contemporary poetry studies and 20th-century American literature in the English department at UCCS. She cross-lists classes about 20th-century African American literature and multi-ethnic poetry studies with WEST. Ortega's publications include articles about the poetry of Gwendolyn Brooks, Adrienne Rich, and June Jordan. She is beginning a version of June Jordan's prestigious "Poetry for the People" project at UCCS in the Spring of 2009.
