Albanesi received her Ph.D. (2001) in Sociology from the University of California at Berkeley. She received her M.A. from the University of California at Berkeley and completed her undergraduate studies at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. Research interests include heterosexuality, gender, and religion. She teaches both graduate and undergraduate courses in social theory, sexuality, gender, religion and culture. Her current research projects investigates the relationship between the 'redshirting" [i.e. holding back] of kindergarteners and hegemonic masculinity.
