Art History Option: 60 credits

Students intending to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Visual & Performing Arts with an Art History option must complete 60 credit hours: 36 in Art History, 6 in Visual Art, 9 in VAPA, and 9 within another VAPA option for the Cross-Disciplinary component.

Art History Concentration Requirements: 36 credits

Art History Core Requirements: 6 credits
AH 1500: Art and Ideas: Michelangelo to Basquiat OR AH 2500: Art Matters: Reading, Writing & Research in Art History
AH 4000: Senior Seminar: The Practice of Art History

Art History Lower Division Requirements: 12 credits
Complete 12 hours of 2000-level Art History survey courses from those listed below:
AH 2000: Special Topics
AH 2800: Ancient Art
AH 2810: Medieval Art
AH 2820: Renaissance, Baroque & Rococo Art
AH 2850: American Art
AH 2860: Modern Art I
AH 2870: Modern Art II
AH 2890: Nineteenth Century Art

Art History Upper Division Requirements: 18 credits
These courses must be distributed among four different areas of study:
Ancient Cultures, Mesoamerican Art, the Medieval World, Asian Art (Japan), Islamic Art, Art of Africa, North American Native Arts, Renaissance & Baroque Art of Europe, Arts of the Pacific Rim, Modern European or American Art, African American Art, Public Art & Architecture, History of Women in the Arts, Art of the Contemporary Period, and Current Issues in Art History.

Visual Art Requirements: 6 credits
Complete 6 hours from the courses listed below. Students with proper prerequisites may elect to take upper division visual arts courses to fulfill this requirement.
VA 1010: Beginning Studio 2D
VA 1020: Beginning Studio 3D
VA 1040: Beginning Drawing
VA 2100: Digital Imaging
VA 2110: Introduction to Photography
VA 2130: Beginning Painting

VAPA Requirements: 9 credits
Complete 3 hours of 1000-level VAPA courses from those listed below:
VAPA 1020: Ethnography of Performing Arts
VAPA 1050: Visual & Performing Arts Foundation
VAPA 1100: Art in Time & Space

Complete 6 hours of the following course:
VAPA 3900: Theory and Practice in the Visual & Performing Arts

Cross-Disciplinary Lower Division Requirements: 3 credits
Complete 3 hours of cross-disciplinary courses of 2000 level from other VAPA areas (FILM, MSGP, MUS, THTR, VA)

Cross-Disciplinary Upper Division Requirements: 6 credits
Complete an additional 6 hours of upper-division (3000+ level) cross-disciplinary courses from other VAPA areas (FILM, MSGP, MUS, THTR, VA)

Art History Minor Requirements: 18 credits

9 credits of lower division 2000 level
9 credits of upper division 3000 / 4000 level
