October 03, 2009 3:30 PM JIM O'CONNELL THE GAZETTE The top 10 things to look for in sports this week (starting Monday): No. 10 The U.S. men’s soccer team has a World Cup qualifier scheduled at Honduras, despite troubles in that country, on Saturday. No. 9 Among local college teams in action, Colorado College volleyball hosts Division II ranked Metro State on Tuesday, the UCCS volleyball team is home vs. rival CSU-Pueblo on Thursday and Air Force volleyball hosts Wyoming and Colorado State on Thursday and Saturday, respectively. No. 8 In Saturday games against national powers, Colorado visits Texas and CSU hosts Utah. Other big college football games include Alabama vs. Mississippi and Florida at LSU. No. 7 It’s the U.S. vs. the World (minus Europe) in Presidents Cup men’s golf Thursday to Sunday in San Francisco. No. 6 In the NFL, the first Favre Bowl has Green Bay at Minnesota on Monday; and on Sunday, it’s Atlanta at San Francisco, Cincinnati at Baltimore and Indy at Tennessee. No. 5 High school action includes state boys’ golf Monday and Tuesday with boys’ tennis regional wrapping up by Saturday. No. 4 CC hockey opens its season at home Friday and Saturday vs. Northeastern. Air Force has its hockey openers at Bemidji State, a Frozen Four team last season coached by Frank Serratore’s brother Tom, Friday and Saturday after a home exhibition vs. the University of Calgary on Monday. No. 3 The Broncos host New England on Sunday in an AFL Legacy game with the Broncos 50th anniversary team to be honored. No. 2 Ranked TCU visits Air Force on Saturday night in a key Mountain West football contest. No. 1 The Major League Baseball division series start Wednesday and the Rockies hope to be on the road Wednesday and Thursday with possible home dates Saturday and Sunday as part of the playoffs. |
