Privatizing CU was proposed in July fiscal plan By Colleen O`Connor The Denver Post Posted: 10/02/2009 11:34:15 PM MDT Backed by a cadre of Colorado college chieftains, University of Colorado President Bruce Benson on Friday shot down the suggestion that his state-funded university should go private. The commission, comprised of 10 citizens and six lawmakers, is chaired by Sen. Rollie Heath and is charged with creating a strategic plan for fiscal stability in all areas, from higher education to transportation funding. At a July meeting of the commission, about 40 people testified about the state`s fiscal model, discussing which programs could be saved and which cut. Denver lawyer Herbert Fenster argued in favor of privatizing CU. Benson was invited to answer Fenster`s proposal. For the full story, visit denverpost.com. |
