Dominique Dawes, who won a Gold medal with the United States gymnastics team at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and was inducted earlier this year – along with her teammates on the “Magnificent Seven” – to the United States Olympic Committee Hall of Fame. Dawes was a three-time Olympian and also won an individual bronze in the floor exercise in 1996 and a team bronze at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. She was the first African-American female gymnast to earn an individual Olympic medal. Dawes now works as a motivational speaker, part-time coach, broadcaster and spokeswoman for issues relating to women’s and children’s health and fitness.
Dawes will speak at UCCS and join in on a number of campus activities. She will also speak to students at Liberty High School. A complete schedule is as follows:
