Martha Jean McKissick Mattoon, friend and supporter of UCCS, passed away March 13, 2008. In 1993 Martha received the UCCS alumni and friends award. She was married to James Mattoon, UCCS professor emeritus and director of the biotechnology center.
Born Sept. 28, 1927, Martha was a life-long educator. After receiving a bachelor’s degree in biology and a master’s degree in speech therapy, she went on to teach in Madison, Wisconsin; Lincoln, Nebraska; and Baltimore, Maryland before moving to Colorado Springs. Martha was very active on the Colorado Springs Park Advisory Board, and served on the Board of Trustees of the Palmer Foundation.
Martha is survived by her husband, James R. Mattoon; a son, Tom Mattoon of Irvine, California; a daughter, Jeanie Mattoon Fassler and husband, Joe of Colorado Springs; and one grandson, Travis Mattoon of Colorado Springs.
