Jeff Davis opened the meeting at 9:10 a.m.  An agenda, Sodexho September report, and April 4, 2004 meeting minutes were distributed. He noted that there is not a quorum for voting.

Approval of minutes from April 9, 2004.  A quorum is not present and the approval of minutes will be placed on the next meeting agenda.

Pizza Hut Contract.  Jeff noted that the Pizza Hut Contract has been extended under Sodexho for the next two years.  He noted that many larger schools have individual contracts with store fronts, but that currently our size dictates the contract to remain under the Food Service provider, Sodexho.

Freshëns.  As last reported on May 4, the installation of Freshëns into the Overlook Cafè was to take place over the Summer semester.  There were several issues with the cabinets and countertops being delivered and installed.  Installers had to be changed due to inability to complete as guaranteed, solid surface countertops had to be reordered after arriving broken in several places, and adjustments had to be made in floor tile and walls due to incorrect cabinet construction. A temporary cabinet and countertop was installed by Dan Smith and Larissa Bonnet until correct cabinets and countertops arrived and were installed.  Freshëns was ready with complete installation before the Fall semester began.

MBA class Food Service in Dwire status. Jeff noted that a proposal was made last Spring, but it was never received by the University Center to request a food service area in Dwire Hall.  Admissions and Records can provide the number of students in classes and the software program to can evaluate the traffic patterns. Campus traffic patterns will be disrupted when construction begins on Engineering Building, Lot 5, and the additional levels to the Parking Garage. It would be appropriate to establish a traffic pattern baseline at present.

Sodexho September monthly report.  Greg Soukup noted that he is submitting a monthly report of each location.  He noted that Donnie Hitt left for CSU Pueblo Catering Manager position. Kate Campbell has taken over as the Retail Manager for Sodexho.  Jazzman's noted a decrease in sales and traffic.  Greg noted that this is due to a change over in personnel, which slowed production and customer satisfaction. He noted that a new permanent lead is in place with the continued support of Rosanna.  He noted that specialty drinks have been added for the holidays.

Greg noted that Sodexho is working with Athletics by providing candy, snacks and drink specials during games.  Athletics is directing people from second level lobby to the Pub for refreshments.  Greg noted that this frees Athletes from the snack bar that existed previously to assist with game details.  Sodexho donate the difference to Athletics if the split profits do not meet the previous year's profits.

Daniel Koble noted an increase in the Columbine Coffee Cart. Greg agreed that it has increased, due to more foot traffic since the Parking Garage has more direct access to Columbine.

Sean Flaherty noted that he is still encouraging housing residents to attend the Food Service Advisory Board meeting.

Dan asked why the Pub is not itemized in the Sodexho September report. Greg noted that it is combined with the Overlook Cafè.  He noted that the Pub area is showing increases due to Friday Afternoon Club, Womens Engineering group, Office of Campus Activities events, and Multicultural Students events being scheduled. These events have assisted with increasing usage of the Pub. Dan asked if there were any complaints about poorly lit areas in the Pub, Greg noted that no complaints had been brought to him and that most students prefer the Pub's dimmer areas.

Greg asked Sean to thank the Resident Assistants for their compliments and large posters that expressed thanks to the Sodexho food service workers in the Lodge.

Jeff noted the passage of the increase of taxes – 1.1% in El Paso County. He noted that this could be a promotional opportunity for Munch Money.  He noted that proposed price increases will be discussed at the next meeting, Sub Connection and Pizza Hut pricing will stay the same, but that Starbucks announced increases of 5%. Greg will meet with Jeff to provide this information before the January 2005 meeting. Greg also noted the bi-monthly specials at the Grille.

Sean noted the EBI Survey stated that food service satisfaction is up among housing students. He noted that commuter students can obtain a meal plan online. He noted that TVs are being installed in the Lower Lodge through MTV University, which pays up front for costs.

Meeting adjourned at 10:17 a.m.  The next FSAB meeting is December 10, 2004.
