Multiple Means of Evaluation workshops

The Regents of the State of Colorado require CU faculty to be evaluated for promotion and tenure by using multiple means of evaluation. Over the next few months, I will be having sessions to discuss other means of evaluation that can be used in addition to FCQs for demonstrating teaching excellence. Learn about Electronic Teaching Portfolios, using learning assessment data to demonstrate teaching excellence, and how peer review can help you develop your teaching.

Classroom assessment techniques -- techniques to assess learning in context, September 3, 3:15 - 4:30 pm, CoH 315

ePortfolios -- teaching and course portfolios to highlight teaching excellence and student learning, October 8, 3:15 - 4:30 pm, SCI 191

Peer Review -- an overview, November 12, 3:15 - 4:30 pm, SENG B218 -- A presentation about the peer review process and how it may be adopted by departments and individuals for another means of evaluation.

The Lecture Revisted 2 Series

The Lecture Revisited is a series of presentations on expanding the notion of the lecture or presentation for more compelling learning experiences. Topics have been chosen to explore different pedagogical and disciplinary viewpoints.

The interactive lecture, September 16, 3:15 - 4:30 pm, UC 303

  • Studies have shown that only a small percentage of students learns by listening, but the lecture certainly remains a powerful method of teaching. With techniques that can effectively stimulate interactions among instructors and students, lectures in classes of all sizes that encourage critical thinking, problem solving, peer teaching and reflection of material are possible.

The micro-lecture, October 14, 3:15 - 4:30 pm, SENG B218

  • Short, succinct and engaging lectures like the TED talks and pechakucha.

The minimalist lecture, November 11, 3:15 - 4:30 pm, SENG B218

  • Presentation zen and teaching "naked" (without technology).

Are You Ready for Podcasting? Workshop -- screen capture applications
September 18, 2009 from 12:15 PM to 1:30 PM in the TLC

The second installment of the workshop series on tools needed for podcasting, you will be introduced to screen capture technologies and how this might be used for a multimedia representation of a lecture or class meeting, for documenting teaching activities, and for training staff or students in your department. Screen capture technology records your voice and anything on the computer display as you speak. There are also applications that can add video from a camera into the captured area. The captured footage is then exported to a movie format, and can be posted on a website or exported to iTunesU. Applications available for tryout in the TLC are Camtasia for Windows and Mac, Screenflow for Mac, and Podcast Producer for Windows and Mac.

To see examples of movies produced using these programs, please go to the TLC website software tutorials and view the movies on Garageband and Audacity: http://www.uccs.edu/~tlc/TLC_resources/online_tutorials/Online_Tutorial.html
