Sustainability Tours:

Members of the UCCS Sustainability Office are available to lead campus tours that highlight sustainability initiatives. Highlights include a focus on LEED certification and high performance buildings, including the Recreation Center and Science Engineering, introduction to our single-stream recycling program, and a visit to our organic garden. Please call us at 255-3089 so that we can design a tour that meets the needs of your group.

Mission

UCCS seeks to foster a culture of sustainability throughout the university's extended community.
We will be a campus:

The Good Earth
  • Where committed administrators, in partnership with faculty, staff, and educated student body, provide leadership and contribute expertise to local, regional, and global environmental efforts, and foster links with other institutions;

  • Where we recognize our obligation to educate the university community about the importance of individual and institutional environmental responsibility and prepare our students by integrating sustainability literacy into academic learning and research across the curriculum and between the colleges;

  • Where sustainability is integrated into all aspects of university functions, including buildings, grounds, operations, planning, and purchasing, in such a way that we minimize the impact of our growing, dynamic campus on the earth.

The Office of Sustainability unites the efforts of faculty, staff and students to support development and lifestyles on campus and in the community that sustain natural resources and protect the environment, ultimately ensuring the ability of future generations to meet their needs too. This office explores ways in which UCCS can incorporate a triple bottom line emphasizing economic, environmental and social criteria to inform university decisions.

The Office of Sustainability was established as a result of collective efforts from student, faculty and staff sustainability groups and was approved by the UCCS leadership team in October 2005. The Office of Sustainability is housed in the Campus Services Building and the Director of Sustainability, Linda Kogan, reports to the Vice Chancellor of Administration and Finance. Several student employees work for the director on a variety of sustainability initiatives.
