The event was a great success. Hundreds of students, faculty, and staff attended the event, which included an Ecological Footprint quiz, free bike tune-ups for those who rode their bike to school that day, free vegetarian food, a successful aluminum can drive, and music provided by UCCS volunteer musicians. School representatives demonstrated plans for our two new building projects on campus designated to be LEED certified.
Colorado Springs businesses at the event shared information and displayed products supporting green and sustainable practices. Many also generously donated prizes including seed packets, backpacks, travel mugs, bus passes, newspaper subscriptions, movie passes, free ice cream, and food baskets.
SEAS members weaved through the crowd of attendees soliciting signatures for petitions to get a more comprehensive recycling program on campus and to insist on LEED certification/green buildings for all new construction and future renovations.
The event is a favorite on campus, and plans are already underway for Earth Day 2007.
