Sustainability Tours:

Members of the UCCS Sustainability Office are available to lead campus tours that highlight sustainability initiatives. Highlights include a focus on LEED certification and high performance buildings, including the Recreation Center and Science Engineering, introduction to our single-stream recycling program, and a visit to our organic garden. Please call us at 255-3089 so that we can design a tour that meets the needs of your group.

Science & Engineering Science & Engineering Building Receives LEED Gold Certification

The Science & Engineering Building received LEED Gold Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. Green features include 30% energy reduction and 40% reduction in water use, heat recovery and ice storage systems, and a thin film laminate solar electric system on the roof.  More...

Brian Burnett, Vice Chancellor Administration and Finance, and Linda Kogan, Sustainability Director, accepted the award from Lionel Rivera, Mayor and CSU Board Chairman, and Jerry Forte, CSU CEO, on behalf of the university for its energy conserving measures.

For their passionate support of sustainability, Tom and Carole Huber, Professor and Senior Instructor in the Geography and Environmental Studies Department respectively, were presented with the first-ever Campus Sustainability Award.

Solar Panels

UCCS Students Overwhelmingly Approve Solar Fee

Referendum #2, Solar Energy, was passed during April 2008 campus elections by 76% of students. The student-initiated statute supports a $5 fee per semester to install solar panels on university buildings.  More...

UCCS Sustainability Summit

UCCS Sustainability Summit
October 15, 2008

UCCS will host its first ever Sustainability Summit on Wednesday, October 15th, from 7:30 am to 1:30 pm in the University Center, Room 303. Engage with five remarkable leaders in the local and global sustainability movement. There will be a local organic breakfast, lunch, sustainability awards, tables staffed by local organizations involved in sustainability activities, short films and more. Join us for all or part of a day that will be fun, informative, and fulfilling.

RecycleMania UCCS enters RecycleMania Competition. Jan 27 - Apr 5
In the last few months, UCCS has put significant investment toward increasing recycling on the campus. We have added recycling bins in all offices, large classrooms, housing, and food service. By entering RecycleMania(link to recyclemaniacs.org), we hope to meet or exceed our first year goal of recycling 26% of our waste. UCCS will also participate in the Waste Minimization contest toward fulfillment of the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment. More...
 
Focus The Nation UCCS Participates in Focus The Nation event. January 31st.
SEAS (Students for Environmental Awareness and Sustainability) is partnering with the Student Government Association, the Campus Sustainability Committee, and the Office of Sustainability, as well as other student organizations, to sponsor Focus the Nation activities at UCCS. Planned highlights include a look at sustainable business innovations by Nicholas Theisen, New Belgium Brewery's Sustainability Specialist, a local elementary school's dramatic production of The Lorax by Dr. Seuss, and a roundtable discussion with our Congressional candidates.
