Student Employee Responsibilities

Hourly & Work-Study

  1. A new Job Data Worksheet (JDW) is needed for new employees and continuing employees once a year. If you continue in the same job from the Summer to the Fall semester or from the Fall to the Spring, you do NOT need to complete a new JDW. However, if you change jobs at any time, you will need to complete a new JDW. The JDW must be complete before you can be entered on the payroll system and be paid.
  2. Paychecks will be directly deposited to your bank. You will receive a pay stub in the mail at your local address. If you wish to change your direct deposit, you will need to do so in writing. Forms are also available on-line at http://www.uccs.edu/~stuemp/formstuemp.shtml.
If you move, make sure you complete a change of address form at the Student Employment Office or the Personnel Office.
  3. The precise dates and times, which you worked within the two-week pay period, must be recorded on the Sign In/Sign Out Form. This form must be signed and given to your employer on the last day you work in each pay period. The total hours worked during each specific two-week pay period will be entered on the Time Report Roster (by your employer). The employer will retain this form in the student employee’s personnel file.
  4. No student employee may work in excess of 40 hours per week without PRIOR special approval from the appropriate Dean or Vice Chancellor. When working in more than one student position on campus, combined hours of all positions may not exceed 40 hours in a one-week period.
  5. All Student Employment policies are in the UCCS Student Employment Handbook. Student Employment Handbooks are located on the World Wide Web at http://www.uccs.edu/~stuemp/handbook.html.
  6. If you are injured on the job, call the UCCS Public Safety Office, 262-3111, immediately. Student employees are covered under the University Worker’s Compensation policy.
Student employees are NOT covered by Unemployment Insurance.

Work Study Only

  1. You must keep track of your work study award. Keep current records of hours worked and hours remaining in order to earn the correct amount of your work-study award. We suggest you use the timesheet that tracks your award and lets you know how much you’ve used located at http://www.uccs.edu/~stuemp/formstuemp.shtml -> Sign-in / Sign-out sheet.
  2. YOU MAY NOT WORK DURING YOUR SCHEDULED CLASS PERIODS.
  3. If you work over the amount of your work-study award, the department will be responsible for paying 100% of your hourly wage. You may earn unlimited funds beyond your work-study award unless your financial aid is based upon your projected 2004-05 income. (The Student Employment Coordinator can determine how much you can earn beyond your work-study award if you fall into the previously mentioned category.)
  4. You must keep the same job until the completion of the semester. You have the option to change jobs at the beginning of the next semester.
If you quit or are terminated in your work-study job mid-semester, you may not get another work-study job until the following semester.
  5. Please be aware that work study earnings are taxable income!
