Available Services

Many professional services are provided including evaluation and treatment of illnesses, health problems and injuries. Examples include, but are not limited to:

Acute Illness care 

Minor injury care

Pregnancy test

Blood pressure check

Limited Medications-must be prescribed by SHC Staff

Annual gynecologic exam including "PAP" tests and breast exam

Emergency Contraception

Smoking cessation

Select lab testing

Asthma Care (including nebulizer treatments)

Hernia or Prostate check

Free brochures on health related topics

Immunizations including Meningitis,   MMR, Hepatitis B, Flu, Tetanus, HPV, and TB test

Birth Control information and supplies

Sexually transmitted disease (STD)screening and treatment

Weight, nutrition, and eating disorders

Referrals to specialists as appropriate

X-RAY referral

Massage Therapy

Mental Health Consultations and Treatment or Referral if Needed

Sports/Work/General Physicals

Allergy Shots:  Allergy injections prescribed by a private health care practitioner may be given at the Student Health Center under limited circumstances.  You must supply and maintain your own antigenic extract, be at maintenance dose, and provide written instructions from your allergist. Allergy injections are given during specific hours, and appointments are necessary. We cannot store extract in the center.

CLASS EXCUSES:  Class attendance policies are determined by individual faculty members. The Student Health Center can provide written verification if you have seen one of our health care providers.

Appointments:  Students are encouraged to call ahead for appointments at 262-4444.  We do not have "walk-in" hours, but we do offer a limited amount of same day appointments.

CHARGES:  The clinic is a  fee for service clinic.   An office visit fee will be charged based on the complexity of the visit. Additional charges may apply for tests or medications. 
                                                                              

  • Level 1: Limited Office Visit (eg. quick follow up or birth control consult)...............$10

  • Level 2: Intermediate Office Visit (eg. strep throat, bronchitis, sinusitis)................$20

  • Level 3: Complex Office Visit (eg. Physical exam - work, GYN, sports)................$30

  • Any labs or tests ordered will incur an additional cost.  For example costs for STD testing are as follows: Chlamydia $30,  Gonorrhea $30,  Herpes blood test $40,  HIV $30,  HPV (for females) $45,  Syphilis $15

Please note that charges are subject to change at anytime and there may be additional charges for collection of blood and/or specimen.  For example, Penrose Outpatient lab has a $5 blood draw charge.

Payment

  • The Center accepts UCCS Student Health Insurance only. Students with other insurance or no insurance are welcome to use the Student Health Center, but are expected to pay at the time of service. We will provide you with receipts to submit to your private insurance for reimbursement.

  • Office Visit fees cover professional services provided at this facility only. Additional services and supplies (Lab tests, supplies, pharmacy items, X-rays, referrals to outside physicians, visits to other facilities, etc.) will be charged in addition to the office visit fee.

  • It is the student's responsibility to know his/her insurance benefits and the items and providers their insurance will cover. Some insurance plans will not pay for services performed at the Center. 

  • The Center accepts cash or checks (with appropriate ID). We cannot accept credit cards.

Staff:  The Center's health care staff consists of physicians, nurse practitioners, and allied health care professionals.

Confidentiality:  When you visit the Health Center, you have the right to privacy, confidentiality, and  to be treated with respect. All medical records are strictly confidential and cannot be released to anyone without your written consent.  The only exceptions to this are:

  • information necessary for public welfare

  • records subpoenaed by the court

 For a medical records to be released you may fill out an Authorization for Release of Medical Information formClick here to download the form or you may obtain a form from the Student Health Center in person.  Once complete, please return form to the Student Health Center by fax, mail or in person to complete the request.
