Committee List

SGA Committees

These are the Committee that SGA members serve on for the explicit purposes of Student Government.

Budget Advisory Committee

Purpose: This committee shall review budget proposals for errors and monitor all clubs and organizations receiving funds from SGA for proper compliance with policies and procedures. This committee also reviews University department budgets and has the option of making recommendations to the Legislative Council.
Membership: Student Director of Finance, Treasure of the House, at least one member of the House, at least one member of the Senate, at least one member of the Judicial Branch, and two students at-large

Meetings: to be determined by committee, at least 4 times a month

Public Relations Committee

Purpose: To serve as a liaison between the UCCS SGA and the student body at large. To publicize and report pertinent Student Government activities, events and forums to the student body, student newspaper and other school media. This committee should also work at enhancing the positive image and recognition of Student Government as an important student institution. PRC has a $2500 budget to work with. PRC is also in charge of coordinating between OSA, UCCS Clubs, and Scribe. The PRC elects an Event Coordinator and a Director of Advertising. The Director of Advertising is tasked with maintaining the Digital Bulletin Board.

Membership: 2 Members of the House appointed by Speaker of the House,2 Members of the Senate appointed by President of the Senate, 2 Representatives of the Judicial Board appointed by the Chief Justice, 1 Member of the Executive Branch.

Meetings: to be set by the committee, but a minimum of twice per month is required.

Scribe Advisory Board

Purpose: Works with the Editor in Chief and Faculty Advisor to ensure the continued operation of the newspaper. Main responsibility for the Scribe’s financial budget lies with the Editor-In-Chief; however the board should take on some oversight responsibility in this area also. This board selects the Scribes advisors and Editor-In-Chiefs.
Membership: one Legislative Member, one Judiciary Member and two students-at-large. Other members are defined by the SAB By-laws

Meetings: to be set by board, but a minimum of once per month is required.

Joint Ethics Committee

Purpose: The Joint Ethics Committee reviews matters related to SGA member absences, disciplinary matters, and compliance with the SGA Code of Ethics. Members who are not upholding the requirements of their respective offices as determined by a majority vote of their respective Branch/Chamber may be referred to the committee who may recommend impeachment to the House of Representatives or other disciplinary action.
Membership: 2 Members of the House appointed by the Speaker of the House, 2 Members of the Senate appointed by the President of the Senate, 2 Representatives of the Judicial Board appointed by Chief Justice, and 1 Member of the Executive Branch

UCCS SGA Award Committee

Purpose: This Committee need only meet if and when the Council approves the accumulation and disbursement of Award funds.
Membership: (3) voting Members as affirmed by the majority vote of the Council
Meetings: When needed the board shall determine meetings

Rules and Organizations Committee

Purpose: The Committee shall review all SGA rules and bylaws. The Committee may make recommendations for changes to such bylaws or the UCCS SGA Constitution. The Committee may also submit other proposals to any unit of SGA that it believes will improve SGA functions and operations. The Committee shall ensure that all SGA bylaws and policies are being followed. If they discover any violation, they shall present to the Legislative Council a recommendation for rectifying the situation and shall appeal any violation to the UCCS Judicial Board if by a majority vote; they determine the violation is serious enough to warrant such action.

Membership: 5 Members of the House appointed by the Speaker, 3 Members of the Senate appointed by the President, 1 member of the Executive Branch, 2 and Members-At-Large appointed by the Executives and approved by the Council.

Committee on Student Fees (House)

Purpose: Members of the Committee shall be responsible for learning about the UCCS Student fee structure and learning the amounts of such fees under control of student government and their purposes. All student fee referenda and other proposals to alter student fees when introduced in the House shall be referred to the committee. The committee shall investigate further and report such legislation back to the House with a neutral, favorable, or negative report.
Membership: The Treasurer of the House who shall be the Chair, Six (6) other members appointed by the Speaker

Committee on Executive Appointments (Senate)

Purpose: The committee shall review all Executive appointments and make a report to the full Senate on whether or not it recommends confirmation of the nominee to fill the vacant office or committee slot. If filling a vacancy to the Judicial Board or House of Representatives, the committee shall solicit the opinions of members of the Judicial Board or the House of Representatives respectively on the qualifications and worthiness of the candidate before submitting their final report. If the committee does not submit such opinions with its report, the full Senate shall not consider the nomination and shall refer it back to the committee for further consideration. The committee shall not consider for appointment those candidates that have been formerly removed from office for at least one (1) year.
Membership: Three (3) members appointed by the President of the Senate. The first (1st) member appointed to the committee shall be the Chair.

University Committees:

 

CU Intercampus Student Forum

Purpose: The representative body of student leaders from amongst the CU campuses, charged to make the monthly reports to the Board of Regents. This forum consists of the leaders from UC Boulder, UC Denver, UC Health Sciences and UCCS. There is a chair position that represents the forum’s concerns and positions to the Board of Regents. There is a President’s Liaison position that represents the forum’s concerns to the President of the Cu system, currently Hank Brown. Finally there is a secretary position that performs the usual duties for the ICSF. All positions are held from July to July in order to have continuity from the officers of one year to the officers of the next. Consists of Co-Executives or as otherwise nominated.

EAS Fee Advisory Committee

Purpose: This committee manages and disburses the instructional fees that are collected by the College of Engineering. They must ensure that the use of the fees is consistent with the long-term needs of the college.
Membership: Senator of Engineering and Applied Science.

LAS Course Fee Committee

Purpose: Meets to review the course fees assigned to the classes.
Membership: Senator of Letters, Arts and Sciences and two student representatives.

Student Diversity Council

Purpose: An umbrella council that unites the leaders of all diversity-related clubs on campus. It allows the goals and issues of these groups to be shared amongst the council, resulting in increased awareness of current campus affairs. It also aims for greater coordination between these clubs in planning mutually-held campus events. The student representative assigned to this committee should act as a liaison between the council and SGA to increase SGA knowledge and participation within this sector.
Membership: Student Director of Multicultural Affairs with option for additional assignments.

University Budget Advisory Committee

Purpose: Meets to review campus wide budgets and send the final draft to the Board of regents for approval. http://web.uccs.edu/vcaf/

Facilities Strategic Plan Update

Purpose: A dynamic and thoughtful process that will lead UCCS to a planning document that is consistent with the goals and objectives of recently updated 7-year Growth Plan. The committee will be meeting with the architect/planning team in charge of the projects on campus. The plan will also investigate ways to work closely with the community, our neighbors, business partners, and the City.  UCCS wants to have influence on the way North Nevada redevelops as the University Village concept is developed.  This new update of the UCCS facilities strategic planning document will include sustainable development concepts and recognize the ecosystem in which we live and work. 
Membership: 2 student representatives required.

Food Service Advisory Board

Purpose: Communicates concerns about the university meal plans, food services and catering. Every 5 years, the food service contract comes up for bid. This board then awards the UCCS contract. Some examples of decisions that this board makes are: how often the meals should be rotated in housing, what kind of operating hours the food centers should have or what kind of vegetarian options should be offered. The 2006-07 school year is a bid year for the UCCS food service contract. As such it is very important for this committee to have reliable student representation. http://web.uccs.edu/uc/ 
Membership: A minimum of 2 student representatives and no more than 3 are necessary.

University Center Advisory Board

Purpose: Meets to discuss and review University Center policies and procedures. Some examples of issues that may be discussed and decided on are the digital signage policies, how to assign UC space or the building hours. This board also has the purview to review UC department budgets. http://web.uccs.edu/uc/

Admission and Records Committees

Purpose: Reviews student appeals for enrollment, tuition payments, etc.

Alcohol Awareness Committee

Art Gallery Board

Purpose: Works as needed with the Director of the Contemporary Gallery of Art in various roles including fundraising, show advertisement, planning for a Fine Arts Center, etc.

Bookstore Advisory Board

Purpose:  This board has the ability to review the policies and procedures for the bookstore; however it acts mainly as an appeal body. It will review and make decisions on appeals concerning the returning of textbooks outside the regular policies. For example, on appeals about returning a textbook after the return deadline has passed or returning a textbook that was bought at another location. All appeals are sent out in the mail to the board, the board will then review them and send in their decision via the mail.

Commencement Committee

Purpose: Plans the campus graduation ceremony, receptions and other accompanying details.

Facilities Services Advisory Board

Purpose: To advise on the planning of facilities (includes parking), to make recommendations on the utilization of space at UCCS, to work with other campus departments in enhancing the attractiveness of campus facilities and grounds.

Financial Aid and Scholarship Advisory Committee

Purpose: This committee evaluates reasonable academic progress (RAP) appeals that have been submitted by students who have had their financial aid suspended due to low cumulative grade point averages and/or low cumulative completion rates. This committee makes the recommendations to the Director of Financial Aid to either approve or deny the appeals..
Membership: one faulty member, one staff member, two student representatives

Information Technology  Advisory Council

Purpose: Recommends policies and direction to the Information Technology Department.
Membership: 2 Student Representatives

Intercollegiate Athletics Advisory Committee

Purpose: Serves as the primary oversight group for all aspects of the University’s intercollegiate athletics program. It works closely with the Athletics Director to recommend policies and serve as a sounding board for the department. Kramer Family Library Committee

Purpose: Advises the library administration on goals, services, policies, etc. Mainly composed of faculty members.
Membership: two student representatives, one undergraduate and one graduate student.

Recreation Department Advisory Board

Purpose: This board’s primary purpose is to allocate funding for teams and/or sports clubs that request it. This board is comprised of 8-15 student representatives with a few staff members. There is an approximate annual budget of $9000 that must be managed. This is the first step for funding requests for all teams/sports club. Since there is only a limited budget, some teams/sports clubs must then come to SGA to request monies. The goal of this board is to fund club sports, encourage new recreational programs and enhance departmental outreach. For the 2006-7 school year there will be an additional consideration given the building of the new recreation center. Equipment for the recreation center will be selected given the needs and recommendations of the athletics department and the recreation department.

Student Achievement Assessment Committee

Purpose: Provides meaningful assessment of academic curricula resulting in program improvements and student learning. Provides assessment of the knowledge, capacities and skills developed by students in academic programs. Focuses on achievement activities surrounding the general education requirements.
Membership: one Student Representative

Student Employment Advisory Board

Purpose: Advisory board to the Student Employment office in matters relating to student employment policies and procedures. Every few years, the board will review and make recommendations for the maximum allowable student wage. In addition, the committee will act as an appeal body in matters of concern on the part of either students or employers on student employment. This board also judges and selects the Student Employee of the Year. It is composed of 3 student representatives and 2 faculty/staff members.
Membership: minimum 1 SGA representative.

Student Health Center Advisory Committee

Purpose: Advisory board to the Student Health Center concerning student health needs and policies. This committee is going to be recommending to the health center what new services should be offered to UCCS students. For the 2006-2007 school year, it will also be advising on a potential fee increase. This board is entirely composed of students with a staff advisor.

Student Technology Fee Committee

Purpose: Allocates the Tech Fee through an open proposal system each semester.

Traffic and Transportation Board

Purpose: Mainly meets to review ticket appeals and make decisions on whether to grant appeals or not. Additionally, this board may review other parking and transportation issues.
