Residence Patterns of HHW Event Attendees

Residents who participate in the household hazardous waste program is heavily weighted toward eastern Pennsylvania where there is a large concentrated population. In eastern Pennsylvania participants are clustered in Philadelphia, Delaware, Lancaster, and Berks.  In central Pennsylvania there is a cluster in Clearfield County.

Clusters may be related to number and location of collection sites.  Also, there might be a relationship between the density of population in an area and the income or educational level of that population.  In rural areas it might be more difficult or inconvenient to get to a collection site.

Further study could be done on the attributes of those populations.

The geocoded particants for an collection event in Allegheny County were clustered around Pittsburg, yet there were many that came from surrounding counties.
