Makeup Exams. If you notify me in advance that you will
miss an exam and you have a documented excuse for your absence, you may take the exam
early. If you miss an exam without notifying me in advance and you have a documented
excuse for your absence, you may take a makeup exam consisting of questions randomly
chosen from a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate-level textbooks. You may
use this privilege once only.
A documented excuse is a verifiable
written statement including the date of absence that confirms an illness, a personal
emergency, or a University-related function. Absences for other reasons are not excused.
Any absence from a quiz or an exam without a documented excuse will result in a grade of
zero.
If you have a dispute on an exam grade, please
resubmit the exam in question with a written explanation on a separate page of why you
believe your answer was incorrectly graded. Resubmissions will be accepted up to one
week after the exam was returned.
Expectations
1. Chem 517 is an upper-division chemistry course; as such, students are expected
to do a considerable amount of self-motivated learning, like reading the assigned chapters
and doing homework. Homework will be assigned but not collected and graded. It
consists of the problems assigned at the end of the textbook chapters and any other
supplemental problems assigned by the instructor.
2. Exams in this course will cover material from lecture, the textbook, and the homework sets. In addition, since this is an upper-division course, exams will require application of learned concepts to material not previously seen.
Academic dishonesty: Academic dishonesty, such as cheating on exams, will be handled as infractions of the UCCS Academic Honor Code. Punishment for cheating may range from receiving an F grade for the assignment to receiving an F for the course and possibly suspension and/or expulsion from the University . Students may appeal the instructor's decisions through university channels.
Important Dates:
September 9, 2004 Last day to drop course with full refund.
November 5, 2004 Last day to drop course without requiring special permission from Dean.
If you wish to drop this course, you must do so before November 5. Dropping the course after November 5 requires petitioning the Dean for special permission to drop and is almost never allowed. If you are still registered as of November 5, you will receive the grade that you earned, even if you have stopped attending class or making an effort in the course. Not attending class does not constitute dropping a course; you are still registered until you officially drop. In addition, it is your responsibility to ensure that your personal schedule allows you to attend class and laboratory sessions on time and in full; if your schedule does not permit those activities, you must withdraw from the course by November 5. I will not support petitions to the Dean for drops after November 5 due either to scheduling conflicts or to poor grades.
Reasonable Accommodation for Disabled Students: The college will make reasonable accommodations for persons with documented disabilities. Students should meet with the Coordinator of Disability Services located in Cragmor Hall , 262-3354. Instructors are to receive a letter of accommodation within the first two weeks of classes when there is an existing disability.
