Network Information and Space Security Center

The Network Information and Space Security Center (NISSC) was established to address critical issues of future architectures, policies, and management strategies, the impact of future technological advances, and research that relates to critical infrastructures. The Center's focus is on strategic planning and technology issues related to complex systems involved in homeland security. It works in collaboration with University departments, industry, government, and other academic entities to share information, identify needs, and find solutions to those needs. NISSC addresses a broad set of needs, needs shared by military and non-military organizations alike, including other governmental entities. In conjunction with of these efforts, CU Colorado Springs, organized through the Campus Faculty Research Council, held its first Security Research Workshop and Poster Session on February 24, 2003, and the list of participants is presented on the following two pages.

NISSC has also worked closely with U.S. Space Command to develop a graduate Computer Science program in information assurance. Currently it is developing a graduate program in homeland security for USNORTHCOM and supporting industry contractor personnel. This year NISSC was awarded a $2,000,000 grant by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research under which it supports faculty in homeland security-related research, provides direct support to USNORTHCOM, and transitions the research results into curriculum supporting both military and government personnel.
